PASTOR TIMOTHY T. SCOTT, JR.
Family Background Service to God and man has permeated the Scott family for many generations. His grandparents, Pastor Matthew C. Scott and Missionary Ethel Scott, were pioneering leaders of the Church of God in Christ in the Lexington (Holmes County), Mississippi area during the 1920s through the 1940s. These years marked the infancy of the Church of God in Christ and the youthful zeal of Bishop Charles Harrison Mason who was breaking ground in Holmes County. The Spirit of God in his grandparents touched the lives of their 10 children. Six of the sons entered the gospel ministry and two of the daughters married gospel preachers. Two of those sons are Jurisdictional Bishops in the Church of God in Christ and the others are pastors in the organization. As the flame of this tremendous spiritual heritage continued in one of the sons, Bishop Timothy Titus Scott, Sr., he imparted that heritage in his ten children. All ten children are saved and involved in kingdom work. Five of the sons are in the gospel ministry. One son and the four daughters are committed Christian workers. Elder Timothy Titus Scott, Jr. accepted the call to ministry as a teenager on December 31, 1974. Now about to begin his twenty-eighth year in ministry, he continues to carry the light of the gospel in Central Mississippi. After completing his basic educational preparation in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi, he accepted a two-year teaching assignment as Instructor of Mathematics & Director of Music for Saint Academy during the Superintendency of Dr. Donald R. Wheelock. In 1981, he relocated to Jackson, Mississippi to continue to pursue his calling by serving as an associate minister of the Amazing Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Marcus Butler. In 1984, was appointed by the late Bishop J. O. Patterson as pastor of the Saint Hill Church of God in Christ in Brandon, Mississippi. In 1985, he launched a radio ministry that became widely known in Mississippi and parts of Louisiana as Spreading the Light of the Gospel. In 1997, he accepted a brief assignment as Editor-in-Chief for the Church of God in Christ Publishing Board Sunday School Literature. This was also the year that the seeds of planting a church in Jackson, Mississippi were planted in the heart of Elder Scott. After three years of planning, prayer, preparation and godly counsel, Elder Timothy Scott launched a new ministry in Jackson, Mississippi. On Palm Sunday, April 16, 2000, Harvest Celebration Evangelistic Church opened it’s doors for ministry in South Jackson. He now continues his work in the ministry as founding pastor of Harvest Celebration Evangelistic Church (Member of the Church of God in Christ) in Jackson, Mississippi, as Jurisdictional Secretary for Mississippi Southern Second Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ, and as a writer through the ministry of Spreading the Light of the Gospel, Inc. |
